Tonight, broadcast live on public television, I'm going to watch : Het Groot Dictee der Nederlanse Taal.

This is the (bi-)national spelling competition, where both famous people and top spellers from the Netherlands and Flanders compete for top spelling honours. Someone has written a short story using a fair amount of complicated languaged, and the contestants must listen to the story as it is read out and write it themselves. The one with the fewest mistakes wins! It should be interesting, partly because we'll see if this year a Dutch person can actually win it. For whatever reason, the Flemish consistently seem to have better top spellers than the Dutch and win the contest almost every single year.
